Starting the virtual server (Debian this time)

July 18, 2007

I switched to another one among the available rootfs images and now things work better: The virtual server boots and I can log into the Linux root account from the virtual console. Presumably the earlier image was faulty or inconsistent with the default choice of kernel. The successful boot configuration consists of kernel and Debian versions both from 2005 (hmmm …)

  • kernel: linux-2.6.14.3-20051221-newubd
  • rootfs: debian-sarge-3.1r0-20050620
